So, why is Manual Lymphatic Drainage so worthwhile? Well, our body's lymphatic system is crucial for our immune systems and our ability to cleanse and strengthen our bodies. It gets rid of toxins and foreign elements, builds new tissue, nourishes, and does everything needed to keep your body functioning in the best condition. It does this by using a complex setup of vessels, nodes and organs that work together to sort the fluid levels in the body. In recent years, manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) has been all the rage amongst a load of celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, and Jennifer Aniston. They have been sharing their eye-catching results on social media with millions while endorsing the procedure, which is the biggest reason the movement has caught fire. Not only that, but one popular Los Angeles massage therapist who specialises in lymphatic drainage has stated he has a waiting list for treatment of over 2,300 clients. However, this trend is not a passing fad. There are a bunch of genuine benefits that MLD offers, which is why many people in their droves are turning to it to boost their beauty and wellness routine. Let us delve more into the reasons why... Manual Lymphatic Drainage is Non-Invasive This is one of the key selling points from manual lymphatic drainage. MLD is a natural noninvasive technique, to give your body a natural detox without using chemicals or medication. The benefits do not end with a boost to your overall appearance either. Here are some more plus points: Detoxification and Support for the Immune System Support The MLD procedure helps stimulate the lymphatic fluids flow, which supports the body's natural detoxification process. This process is vital for getting rid of the waste and toxins from tissues in the body. Not only that, but a lymphatic system that functions well results in an immune system that responds well and strongly when needed. A Reduction in Swelling and Water Retention This is another advantage which occurs as manual lymphatic drainage encourages the body to remove excess fluids. People suffering from lymphedema or puffiness due to lifestyle factors can really capitalise on this benefit. Skin Health MLD also helps with this by enhancing the texture and tone through toxins in the body being removed and an increase in blood circulation. With these factors in place, you get to benefit from clearer and more radiant skin. Relaxation and a Reduction of Stress MLD does not just work wonders for the body and your beauty; it boosts your mind, too. The procedure involves gentle and rhythmic strokes, which calm and bring down stress levels. This does not just put your mind at ease, but a decrease of stress impacts the body and your skin positively too. Post-Operative Lymphatic Drainage Massage The procedure is also just the ticket if you have had cosmetic surgery. It will aid in reducing swelling and encourage your body to mend as quickly as possible. With a Post-Operative Lymphatic Drainage Massage, the lymph flow will get a boost, and the body will find it easier to remove waste, so there is less chance of issues with the healing process. Conclusion So, overall, it is clear to see why celebrities and people in general are queuing up to get the benefits from this miraculous procedure. It is not invasive, and it brings with it a host of benefits that can transform a person's appearance and mental wellbeing making it such a valuable option. At Restore Harmony , we are proud to offer manual lymphatic drainage in Birmingham to help with a wide range of issues. Are you wondering what to expect during a Radio Frequency treatment? You will definitely find out each of the stages during your consultation If you can’t wait until then – here’s everything you need to know. (1) Consultation During your consultation, you can discuss your specific skin care needs and skin history. This enables us to determine your suitability for the treatment. Once this has confirmed that the treatment is the best course of action for your skin, you will be able to discuss how many treatments you need, and the frequency you can commit to. Each of these factors will allow you to achieve the best results. It is likely we will recommend a course of six, either once a week for 6 weeks, or twice a week for three weeks. (2) Prepare the Skin After the completed consultation, the first stage of the actual treatment is to cleanse and exfoliate the skin, with the SkinBase Exfoliating Cleanser with AHA. You can purchase this product from us if you would like to add it to your own routine. Once the skin is clean, we will apply conductive gel to the treatment area. The conductive gel allows the ceramic wand to glide across the skin, allowing smooth movements and the best results. (3) Collagen Lift During the radio frequency treatment, the ceramic wand moves in continuous circles. We may reapply conductive gel where necessary, to ensure the smoothest contact between the wand and the skin. The wand builds heat, thoroughly warming the skin. It is a comfortable, relaxing treatment, similar to a hot stone massage. The heat slowly increases throughout the treatment. We will check in with you to ensure it remains tolerable for your skin. (4) Post-Treatment Aftercare After the Collagen Lift treatment, you can expect the treatment area to be cleansed again to remove any residual conductive gel. Once the skin is clean, a soothing moisturiser and SPF is applied to the skin. Once you leave after your treatment, ensure you are drinking plenty of water and following the aftercare provided by us for maximum results. Still deciding whether or not to go ahead ? Why not book in for a free consultation. https://restore-harmony.book.app/book-now

How Massage Boosts Your Immune System and Reduces Stress In the fast-paced rhythm of modern life, stress has become an unwelcome companion for many, taking a toll on our physical and mental well-being. The intricate dance between stress and the immune system is a topic of growing interest in wellness circles. As stress levels rise, the immune system's ability to defend the body diminishes, leaving us more susceptible to illnesses. Amidst this challenge, an ancient practice emerges as a powerful ally in the battle against stress and its detrimental effects on the immune system: massage therapy. This article explores the fascinating connection between massage, stress reduction, and immune system enhancement. By delving into the science behind these interactions, we aim to shed light on how the healing touch of massage can be a transformative force in cultivating a robust immune system and promoting overall well-being. Join us on this journey to unravel the secrets of stress relief and immune resilience through the art of massage. Understanding the Stress-Immune System Connection To comprehend the profound link between stress and the immune system, we must delve into the intricate biological responses that unfold within the human body. When we encounter stress, a surge of hormones, including cortisol and adrenaline, is unleashed. While these hormones serve vital functions in immediate stress responses, chronic exposure can wreak havoc on our immune defenses. Cortisol, a key player in the stress response, initially suppresses inflammation. However, prolonged elevation can lead to a compromised immune system. The Therapeutic Power of Massage Massage therapy serves as a potent antidote to the adverse effects of chronic stress. Through the skilful application of touch, massage induces a profound state of relaxation, triggering a cascade of physiological responses. The tactile stimulation of the skin during a massage prompts the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and endorphins, often referred to as the body's natural mood enhancers. As these feel-good neurotransmitters flood the system, they counteract the stress hormones, cortisol, and adrenaline. Moreover, massage promotes the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, commonly known as the "rest and digest" system. This shift away from the "fight or flight" response contributes to a reduction in heart rate, lowered blood pressure, and an overall sense of tranquility. Boosting Immunity Through Massage Scientific exploration has revealed compelling evidence that regular massages can act as a formidable ally in fortifying the immune system. Studies demonstrate a positive correlation between massage therapy and enhanced immune markers, showcasing the potential for massages to bolster the body's defense mechanisms. One notable effect is the increase in the number of white blood cells, the front-line warriors of the immune system. These cells play a crucial role in identifying and eliminating pathogens. Additionally, massage has been linked to a rise in the activity of natural killer (NK) cells, specialised immune cells known for their ability to target and destroy infected or damaged cells. Additional Benefits of Stress Reduction Beyond its direct impact on the immune system, stress reduction through massage offers a myriad of additional benefits that contribute to overall well-being. One prominent advantage is the positive influence on sleep patterns. Chronic stress often disrupts sleep, and massage has been shown to alleviate insomnia by promoting relaxation and improving the quality of sleep. Moreover, the mental clarity achieved through stress reduction is a noteworthy outcome. The calming effects of massage extend to the mind, helping to alleviate mental fog, enhance focus, and foster a heightened sense of awareness. In the realm of holistic wellness, the benefits of stress reduction also manifest in emotional well-being. Massage therapy, by alleviating stress, contributes to a more positive mood and a reduced risk of developing mental health issues. By understanding the dynamic interplay between stress, massage, and immune function, we encourage you to consider incorporating regular massages into your wellness routine. This is a reminder that self-care, in the form of massage therapy, can be a powerful strategy in maintaining a robust immune system and achieving a harmonious balance between mind and body.

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage has become increasingly popular as people begin to the learn the benefits and medical professionals are recommending it for their patients. It is a technique that has been around for a long time. The philosopher Aristotle knew about the lymphatic system and referred to it as a “different system that was not blood” a “colourless fluid.” MLD is a powerful cleansing technique that removes and drains waste from the body via the lymph nodes. The lymphatic system is just under the skin and so MLD is a very gentle technique that stimulates the movement of lymph. There are many techniques, the VODDER method is the most popular method, and this is the technique I use at the clinic. MLD is an effective treatment for a wide range of problems including swelling (oedema), bloating, post-surgery, headaches, and skin disorders. It is also great to boost the immune system by increasing immune cells and lymphocytes. How does the lymphatic system work? The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system. Its main function is to drain, remove waste, and combat infections. Lymph is the fluid that moves around the system by a lymphatic collector which is a tiny muscle that moves the lymph. Lymph fluid contains water, proteins, fats, blood cells and items such as hormones. Lymph fluid is taken to the lymph nodes which filters out all the bad stuff, such as viruses, bacteria, parasites etc. You have around 800-1200 lymph nodes around the body, and they are in your abdomen, armpits, groin, behind the knees, pectorals, base of the skull and in your ankles.

I have so many clients who have issues with sleep. According to the Sleep foundation (2022) Sleep is an essential function, to allow your body and mind to recharge. 1 in 3 people report, they have problems with sleep. Without enough sleep your brain cannot function properly. For most adults we require around at least seven hours of sleep for proper brain function, and to keep the body from risk of diseases such as high blood pressure. Here are my top tips to help you improve your sleep habits. Establish a Bedtime Yes, even adults need a bedtime. This is not only for children. To help your body get into a healthy sleep cycle it is important to have a bedtime. Remember, you want to aim for at least seven hours, so if you need to be up for 6am, then going to bed at 10pm, will give you time to drift off. Doing this every night (even on the weekends), will promote a healthy sleep habit. Your body will start to follow this pattern in due time (remember you must also wake at the same time every day for it to be effective). Create Ambience Creating the right ambience can help you to relax. Making some small adjustments could make a difference. Try to make sure the room is at a comfortable temperature and the lighting is low. Burning some candles or a diffuser before bed, can help you become relaxed with the right blends. Ensure the window cannot let any light in, black out blinds or curtains are great for this. The correct mattress can make all the difference and even the type of sheets. Make sure your room is tidy and clutter free, this well help your mind to be clear. Watch your diet It is best to stay away from caffeine, heavy meals and alcohol before bed. These things can give you indigestion and disrupt the quality of your sleep. If you are hungry before bed, then try eating a banana which is good source of carbohydrate to fill you up and increases melatonin (melatonin is the hormone that controls your sleep-wake cycle). A glass of milk is also an option as the tryptophan and calcium in the milk can help you to sleep more soundly. Turn off your gadgets. It is important to put your phone and gadgets away, at least an hour before bed. The blue light on your screen restrains melatonin, making it more difficult to fall asleep. If you do need to use your phone, then try to avoid doom scrolling (scrolling through social media excessively) or texting/answering emails. Instead use it to listen to calming music. You don’t want your mind to be engaged and over stimulated before trying to fall asleep. Create a bedtime routine Having a bedtime routine can help to relax you before bed and calm your mind. A hot bath before bed can help you to fall asleep more quickly. A bath oil blend, or some drops of a lavender essential oil is also great to aid with this. Chamomile tea is beneficial before bed, because it is a mild sedative and can help to improve your sleep quality. Taking it slow before bed can also help to calm your mind. Reading a book or practising some meditation will be encourage a good night’s sleep. Listen to rain sounds According to Better sleep (2022) rain sounds produce ‘pink noise’ which cancels out background noises which could affect your sleep. The sound of rain is a non-threatening sound for your brain and aids in relaxation. Rain sounds can also decrease levels of cortisol (stress hormone) in the body, lower blood pressure and help you to fall asleep much quicker. Book in for regular massages Regular massage, especially with blended aromatherapy oils can help to aid in a restful night’s sleep. Clients also report a better sleep after a hot stone massage. Within the treatment room, I stock products that can also help you to fall asleep such as gels, diffuser blends, oils, and candles. If you try these helpful tips and stick to them, you will find you are starting to sleep much better. Please be aware to always consult your GP, if you are worried.

No one likes headaches. They’re painful, frustrating, and in some cases can be debilitating and cause a whole afternoon on the couch with a pillow over your face, wishing everything would just be quiet. Headaches can come in many flavours ranging from tension or sinus to hormonal or migraine – each variety with their own set of common causes. Here are some of the most frequent causes of headaches, and what you can do to prevent them. Bad posture It’s an unconscious force of habit for many people to stoop forward sitting at a desk, bow their head for long periods while looking at mobile devices, and walking hunched over. Put all these habits together throughout a day, and you have the perfect recipe for a tension headache, sore muscles, and misalignment. Set yourself 30-60-minute reminders to adjust your posture, stand up and stretch, and always be conscious of how much screen time you’re getting and how your body is positioned for these periods. It’s a great idea to regularly see a practitioner in this area who can give you the maintenance care you need when you inevitably forget! Diet No surprises here! Your body is designed to function on key vitamins and minerals mostly found in the food you eat. If you’re not getting enough of the good stuff and consuming too many processed foods that lack vital nutrition, it’s a guaranteed way to give yourself persistent headaches. It’s your body’s way of telling you what it’s not getting, and what it desperately needs. On the flip side, certain food sensitivities and allergies can also be headache triggers. Write down everything you eat in a week, and start weeding out processed foods, refined sugars, and high sodium items, replacing them with a healthy dose of fruit, vegetables, proteins, and legumes. If you notice a pattern of headaches after a particular meal or food type, try a process of elimination to find any potential sensitivities or allergies that could be the root cause of your headaches. Liquids (the right kind) We know that when it comes to our survival, water is the star player. We also know that the vast majority of people simply don’t drink enough of it! Dehydration is one of the most common and obvious causes of headaches, and fortunately, one of the easiest to rectify. Next time you feel a headache coming on, try drinking a glass or two of water and wait 10-20 minutes. You might be pleasantly surprised at how quickly this works! Your environment Next time you start to get a headache, think about what potential environmental triggers are around you. Do you have allergies that set off your sinuses? Are you exposed to a lot of polluted or recycled air? Is your space filled with noise pollution? Are you around electronic devices and screens all day that could be straining your eyes? Sometimes, the answer to your mystery headache could be as simple as some fresh air, an antihistamine, or a break from technology. Pay attention to your environment and limit any known headache triggers as much as you practicably can. Stress Most people can feel stressed or overwhelmed at some point in their lives. Sometimes headaches can be a symptom of stress. It is important to try and use strategies to help you to deal with stress. These can range from talking to someone, regular massage, exercising, and time management techniques. These strategies can help to alleviate your symptoms of headaches. It is important to seek further information and support should you have continuous headaches, that do not improve after changes have been made. Regular eye tests are also important to ensure you are not straining your eyes.
